This course explores puppetry, both contemporary and historical, as a means of interpreting texts using visual means. Projects will be designed to stimulate the visual imagination; develop sensitivity to the expressive nature of the theatrical mise en scene as it relates to puppet design, including puppet movement and gesture; apply principles of design and composition to a variety of historical styles of puppetry including shadow, rod, and masked performer; and adapt text for the puppet theater.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
