This course will focus on the work of this Portuguese-speaking playwright, whose plays are representative of Brazil's urban culture and instrumental in the formation of Brazilian theatre's avant-garde. Rodrigues' dramatic ouvre--commonly divided in Carioca tragedies, mythic and psychological plays--will be explored in this course from both dramaturgical and performance standpoints. Thus, as the course progresses students will merge theory and practice, departing from the current knowledge of Rodrigues' theater to their own interpretative concept of this author's work.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
