This course focuses on the history of theatrical performance from the 17th through the19th centuries, principally in the Americas and Europe (see THEA301 for history of Asian theatre); and will interrogate how key events in American history correlate with stage performances, including the importance of Shakespeare revivals. Students investigate how theater arts and dramatic texts reinforce or challenge cultural norms.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
