Modern Spanish Literature and Civilization
SPAN 223 FA
Close study of representative works of Spanish literature from the 18th and 19th centuries, with special focus on the historical context and on the relationship between literature and the visual arts.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Primary assignments include 5-page essays and a final exam.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Required of majors but non-majors are welcome. Readings, class discussion, and written work in Spanish only. This course is intended for students who have completed SPAN 221 with a grade of B- or better or have placed
into SPAN 223 through the
placement test this fall.
Students enrolled in SPAN223 meet 3 hours weekly with the professor and 1 hour per week in a (small) discussion group with the course assistant.
