This course focuses on the institutionalized production of masculinity and femininity as relevant social identities. Topics to be considered include the acqusition of gender in early life; the workplace as a site of gender differentiation; cultural representations of gender and sexuality; the racialized character of gender identities. Emphasis will be placed on various theories that have been advanced to explain sexual differentiation and male dominance.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
