PHYS 358 SP
The fundamentals of structure, phonons and electrons in solids will be developed as a basis for understanding the thermal, electronic, and magnetic properties of materials. Superconductivity, semiconductors, and optical
phenomena will also be addressed.
MAJOR READINGS
C. Kittel, INTRODUCTION TO SOLID-STATE PHYSICS (6th ed.) or equivalent.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly problem sets will be assigned and regular in-class quizzes will be given.
