Sonata Form
MUSC 205 FA
This course explores in depth selected sonata allegro movements of Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven and Schubert.
MAJOR READINGS
Selected piano sonatas and string quartets by composers of the classical period; various articles by Torey, Rosen, and more recent authors.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Analyses of selected Haydn and Schubert movements during exams and as writing assignments.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Students must be able to read music and must be familiar with the fundamental principles of harmonic analysis.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
