Using readings from THE ODES, and employing a variety of critical approaches to Horatian lyric, this course will include discussion of lyric poetry as a genre and examination of comparable classical and postclassical texts. Special attention will be paid to critical methodologies in close reading of selected poems and of secondary literature, and to modern reception and translations of Horace.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
