Jews Under Christian and Muslim Rule During the Middle Ages
HIST 301 FA
The objective of this course is to examine closely Jewish experience during the Middle Ages, both in Christian and Muslim states. Topics studied will include internal cultural, political, and intellectual developments
within
Jewish communities; sectarianism; Jewish-Christian and Jewish-Muslim interaction. Students will be exposed to a wide range of primary sources. Secondary sources will be used to illustrate current scholarly debates on
the
topics relevant to the course.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
No midterm or final exams. Regular response sheets. Two papers: one short 5-6 p. paper based on a primary source and one research paper.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Participation in class discussions. This course fulfills a "Religion in Society" Religion Department majors requirement. HIST 247 is recommended but not required.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
