Desire and Fulfillment: Romantic Art, Music, and Literature

An introduction to the European Romantic period through a close reading of its literature, visual arts and, to a lesser extent, its music. The focus will be on England, the German-speaking areas, and France, though all readings will be in English. Six written assignments, some of them short one-page responses, others more extended essays.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Eight papers or responses, and a final take-home exam.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
