Moliere
FREN 235 FA

This course provides a survey of many of Moliere's most important "idea-driven" comedies, from L'Ecole des femmes, to Le Misanthrope, to Le Medecin malgre lui. In this class, we will see that Moliere's plays are a particularly effective means of accessing many of the historical concerns of seventeenth-century France (at least at court). Indeed, whether farcical or tragicomic, Moliere's plays lead to discussions of sexual politics and philosophical libertinage.
