This course investigates the writings of women in France since the publication of Simone de Beauvoir's LE DEUXIEME SEXE in 1949. Through a study of novels and poems by women writers such as Beauvoir, Mansour, Duras, Cardinal, Redonnet, we will explore the role of politics, psychoanalysis and the question of memory in women's writing, as well as the themes of maternity, sexuality, the relationship between the public and the private. In a more sociological perspective, we will also determine the influence of feminism on literature.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
