This is a course in advanced narrative and stylistic analysis that focuses on films from Hong Kong, Taiwan, and Japan made in the last twenty years. The class includes units on methods of comparative analysis, popular genres, authorship in art cinema, the regional film industry, and the international film festival circuit. The films of Tsui Hark, Corey Yuen, Wong Kar-wai, Tsai Ming-liang, Hou Hsiao-hsien, Kitano Takeshi, Kore-eda Hirokazu, and others will be featured.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
