History of World Cinema, World War II to Present
FILM 310 SP

This course will cover the history of international cinema from WWII to the present, including major movements and trends in Hollywood, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, as well as documentary and avant-garde filmmaking. The impact of the decline of the Hollywood studio system and the rise of independent filmmaking, technological changes, art cinema and film culture, and the international festival circuit will also be examined. This course is designed to be a class for those wishing to declare the film major as well as a general education class.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two exams, quizzes, one short analytical paper, and four short critical reviews.

Attendance required. Course fee: $45.00.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
