This course is a study of the relation between dissensual political and social movements--queer, communist, feminist, anarchist, African American nationalist, and beat--and poetry written in and about New York City during the modern era.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Approximately 8 short papers.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Some previous knowledge of poetry or of U.S. American history and politics is presupposed. Requirements: Participation in discussion and punctual and regular attendance.

There is no wait-list. But if you haven't been admitted through
pre-registration, you may re-apply to take the course by attending punctually at the first class meeting.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
