A survey of modern literary, critical and cultural theories. Emphasis on key concepts--such as language and textuality; identity, subjectivity and gender; power, knowledge, cultural institutions and the state; and key figures, such as Marx, Freud, Nietzsche, Saussure, Barthes, Gramsci, Benjamin, Foucault, Althusser, and Jameson.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
