ENGL 252 SP

This course presents the drama and poetry of Shakespeare's only rival and first laureate, concentrating on the poetics of patronage and praise, city comedy and the acquistion of capital, and representing royalty.

MAJOR READINGS

Selected poems from the EPIGRAMS, FOREST, and UNDERWOOD; VOLPONE, EPICOENE, THE ALCHEMIST, BARTHOLOMEW FAIR, and selected masques.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two papers and a class presentation.

This course meets the English Department's pre-1800 requirement.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
