More Plays in Pairs
ENGL 237 FA

Using the same concept as the original Plays in Pairs, but with an entirely different set of readings, this course may be taken for credit either independently or in conjunction with its forerunner (ENGL232). Sometimes famous, sometimes offbeat examples of drama, opera and film will be grouped in unorthodox sets to bring out surprising connections and relationships.

MAJOR READINGS

PROMETHEUS BOUND (Aeschylus) and HAPPY DAYS (Beckett), THE TEMPEST (Shakespeare) and THE GHOST SONATA (Strindberg), DON GIOVANNI (Mozart) and THE MISANTHROPE (Moliere), LYSISTRATA (Aristophanes) and THE PHYSICISTS (Duerrenmatt), DEATH OF A SALESMAN (Miller) and FENCES (Wilson), HAROLD AND MAUDE (Higgins) and MASTER HAROLD AND THE BOYS (Fugard).

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two written projects, one a traditional paper, the other bizarre.
