Beginning Poetry Workshop
ENGL 166 SP
This seminar-style course will focus on the reading and constructive discussion of poetry submitted by members of the workshop. It will include an ongoing discussion of open and closed forms, reading assignments in
contemporary
poetry, and a variety of writing experiments.
MAJOR READINGS
Recent works by contemporary American poets.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Four brief prose response papers; weekly poetry submissions; constructive oral critiques; and a 10-15 page collection of poetry.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
To apply for the course, please submit 5 pages of poetry and a biographical information sheet including your name, email address, year in school, and a brief account of your history and interest in poetry. Submissions
will be due at the English
department office, c/o Sheila Kelleher, 285 Court St., Middletown, CT 06459-0100 by noon on January 7, 2003.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
