Cell Biology
BIOL 226 SP

This course deals with the molecular basis for the structure and function of cells, from the nucleus to the cell membrane. We will cover research techniques, protein synthesis, cell motility, cell cycle, cell-cell and cell-extracellular matrix interactions, and signal transduction. An emphasis will be placed on how these processes are studied.

MAJOR READINGS

MOLECULAR CELL BIOLOGY, 4th Edition. Lodish, Zipursky, Matsudaira, Baltimore and Darnell. Bedford Freeman & Worth Publ.; and current literature.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Three 1 hour exams and a final exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

In addition to faculty lectures, students will be expected to give oral presentation and participate actively in class dicussions.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
