Genetics and Its Human Concerns
BIOL 101 SP

The focus of this course will be on applications of genetics to human life, specifically to reproduction, genetic diseases and food production. As we explore these topics, students will learn basic concepts in developmental biology, cell biology, genetics, and genomics. Case studies will be introduced to provide a context for understanding the research approaches used in cloning, gene therapy and genetically modified organism production. The scientific, ethical and social implications of these applications will be discussed. Students will take three exams and write two papers for this course.
