ARST 451 FA

This is a basic introductory course to the methods and aesthetics of black-and-white photography.

MAJOR READINGS

Over one hundred pages of course handouts.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Weekly and final submission of photographic prints, contact sheets. No exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Students must supply their own SINGLE LENS REFLEX camera in good working order with fully ADJUSTABLE APERTURES, SHUTTER SPEEDS, I.S.O. settings (Auto DX film speed indexing not acceptable unless it can be over ridden) built-in light meter. Selection by interview. Date, location of interview and detailed course information posted outside photolab hallway in the basement of Zilkha Gallery building. Please read posted information prior to interview. LAB FEE IS $135 (includes chemicals and handout text). Regular weekly lab will be adjusted as much as possible to accomodate student schedules. Some classes may last until 4:00pm. Additionally, ARST455/ARST624 INTENSIVE BASIC PHOTOGRAPHY (Seeley, J) will be offered in the last two weeks in May 2002. Students must register at Graduate Liberal Studies Office (mid-November 2002 through February 2003). Undergraduates enrolled in the course will earn one credit for the Spring 2003 semester. This course offers approximately the same curriculum as ARST 451 and credit can be applied to the department major.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
