Mishima and Oe: Two Postwar Writers of Japan

This seminar is an in-depth study of two of the most prominent writers of Japan since 1947. We will examine their political and ethical interests, literary theories that have inspired them, and their literary contributions to world literature. All readings will be in English translations; knowledge of Japanese is desirable but not required.
