This course offers an introduction to the cultural production of African Americans from the mid-18th century to the present, with an emphasis on poetry and fiction. We will consider issues of genre, literary tradition(s), and historical context, while gaining experience in reading and writing about literary texts.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
