Acting I
THEA245 SP

An intensive introduction to the art of acting through practical studio investigation. Topics will include the basic elements of the Stanislavski system. Students will present exercises, monologues and scenes in class.

MAJOR READINGS

The reading varies from semester to semester, depending upon the wishes of the instructor.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Scenes, monologues, exercises, journal and one paper.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

In the Spring term, preference is given to freshmen and sophomores who intend to become theater majors. This course is prerequisite for Acting II and higher-level acting courses, and for Directing I. Admission by interview/audition during preregistration. Admission to studio, performance, project and tutorial courses in theater is at the discretion of the individual faculty instructors, who take into account estimated talent, experience and the need to form balanced and effective working ensembles

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
