The Analysis and Performance of Literature
THEA211 FA

Crosslistings: ENGL211

This course engages an active, experiential and experimental approach to the study of literature through performance across a variety of disciplines, cultures, and genres. By performing different kinds of "non-dramatic" literature--poetry, narrative fiction, and non-fiction texts--we will investigate performance as a particularly powerful way of knowing: an embodied knowledge that offers unique insights into the relationship between human experience and literary texts. In the performance community fo rmed in this class, students will be encouraged to simultaneously broaden intellectual horizons, sharpen critical faculties and writing skills, and imaginatively engage literature as a means of developing individual creative process and personal/artistic voice.
