Russian Drama
RUSS269 SP

We will read classic works of 19th- and 20th-century drama, including plays by Pushkin, Gogol, Ostrovsky, Chekhov, Gorky, Mayakovsky, Shvarts, and Petrushevskaya. The plays will be considered both as literary texts and as the dramatic production of directors--from Stanislavsky to Meyerhold. All readings are in Russian and should be accompanied by listening to the language lab's recordings of live performances of each play. Class will be conducted in Russian and in English.
