Gogol's "Dead Souls"
RUSS253 FA
Close reading of Gogol's 1842 novel MERTYVE DUSHI (DEAD SOULS) with particular attention to Gogol's peculiarities of style and lexicon. If time permits, we will also read non-fictional works by Gogol.
MAJOR READINGS
MERTVYE DUSHI; assorted critical works in Russian and English.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Regular class presentations; several short papers in Russian.

This course will be taught in Russian.
