In its play with contemporary genres and styles it also establishes Russian literature's central role in defining and redefining Russian culture. This course will read Pushkin both ways: as the "Pushkin -tour" of the Russian language's expressive potential and as Pushkin's creative articulation of Russian culture in the 1820s and 1830s.
