Zamyatin's WE inspired BRAVE NEW WORLD and 1984; Bulgakov's MASTER AND MARGARITA remained hidden for 27 years; Solzhenitsyn risked submitting IVAN DENISOVICH during Khrushchev's Thaw--each decade has its characteristic masterpiece.
