The Psychology of Reading
PSYC322 FA

This course provides a survey of current research and theory on reading acquisition and reading processes from the perspectives of developmental and experimental cognitive psychology. Among the topics to be covered are the linguistic and nonlinguistic bases of reading, word recognition, reading comprehension, and developmental and acquired dyslexia. Recent work on the biological bases of reading will also be discussed. To increase their understanding of the reading process, students will spend time tutoring individuals in learning to read.
