Understanding Psychopathology

This course provides a survey of the major contemporary schools of psychopathology (biological, psychoanalytic, interpersonal, social, behavioral-cognitive). It familiarizes students with the current classification system (DSM IV) for psychiatric disorders. It will introduce students to basic approaches to assessment and treatment of individuals with psychopathology.

MAJOR READINGS

There will be an assigned text and supplemental readings.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Two exams, written assignment (case study), and final exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This is a core course in the study area of Personality and Psychopathology.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
