An introductory course in Cell Biology and Molecular Genetics designed for students with a substantial background in Biology. All of the material and lectures of Biol-MB&B205 will be included : and an additional one & one-half hour meeting per week will cover related specific topics in considerably greater depth. Examples of such topics include: the dynamics of protein folding; mechanisms of intracellular transport; gene therapy; and the genetic and molecular basis of certain diseases such as cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy, and cancer with emphasis on free radical production and damage to cellular membranes and to DNA, and defects in DNA repair and cell cycle regulation.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
