Students and faculty members will work cooperatively on significant, open-ended problems selected from diverse areas of mathematics, with the goal of clarifying relationships among various mathematical topics and their applications. While learning and applying a spectrum of problem-solving approaches (reinforced by the shared experience of group study), students will be actively involved in the processes of observation, pattern recognition, conjecture, and proof and, thus, will develop some mathematical maturity.
