Calculus I, Part I
MATH121 FA

(Students who have successfully completed a high school calculus course of approximately one year should choose among MATH121, MATH122, MATH221, MATH222, and MATH223. An AP score of 3 or better should indicate a preference for one of the 200 level courses.) MATH121 is designed for students who have completed a high school calculus course of approximately one year, and who might pursue study in an area for which calculus is an essential tool. This course is a deeper and broader study of calculus t han MATH117; theoretical aspects are not the main focus but will not be avoided. The course will, together with MATH122, treat limits, derivatives, and integrals; the calculus of exponentials and logarithms, trigonometric and inverse trigonometric functi ons; techniques of integration; plane analytic geometry; various applications of calculus; sequences and series, including power series and intervals of convergence.

Regular quizzes and/or hour tests, three-hour final exam, weekly homework assignments.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

Recommended preparation for 99-00 is high school mathematics through at least a semester of calculus. Students who have not studied calculus previously should enroll in 117.
