Cicero: Politician and Humanist

This course will profile the life and thought of Cicero through the reading of representative works in Latin and English. Cicero will be placed in the evolving political scene of the first century B.C. but also will be analyzed as a major Roman thinker in the areas of political and rhetorical theory. Selections of the letters will be used to define better the character, ideals, weaknesses and strengths of the man.
