Gender Perspectives in Modern Italian Fiction & Film
ITAL243 FA

Crosslistings: WMST220

This course is designed for the advanced student who needs practice in reading, writing, and discussion. It will explore the differing perspective of male and female writers as shown in various shorter works of Italian fiction and nonfiction, principally from the 20th century. We will discuss the treatment of similar themes -- love, marriage and sexual mores, war and Fascism, autobiography -- by men and women and attempt to define what differences, if any, exist in their visions. We will also give some attention to films by such directors as Pietro Germi and Lina Wertmuller.
