Post-War Italy in Fiction and Film: Views of Contemporary Italian Civilization

An introduction to Italian culture and society since 1945, this course combines films and readings that illustrate such themes as the impact of the Second World War on political, social, and economic life; the plight of Italian Jews, and the changing relations between the sexes. It includes texts by Sciascia, Calvino, Ginzburg and others; films by such directors as DeSica, Fellini and Rossellini.
