The Novella
ITAL222 FA

This course will trace the development of the novella, or short story, from its origins in the 13th century through the modern period. Although the emphasis will be on recurrent themes (love, marriage, the roles of women, priests), some attention will be given to stylistic development and to the social and historical contexts that affected individual writers.
