Issues in Contemporary Historiography
HIST362 FA
This course is designed to introduce students to a range of problems and critical practices in the discipline of history. The first section will explore varieties of evidence and problems of interpretation; the second
will provide a close examination of
a historical problem analyzed from different perspectives; and the last section will consider methods and models in the construction of historical explanation.
MAJOR READINGS
The readings for this course will include a broad range of critical essays and selected primary source documents.
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Students will be responsible for several short essays and a final project that involves the preparation of a research proposal.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
This course is a required course for all history majors.
Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed
Drop/Add form to the Registrar's
Office.
