Religion and History
HIST323 SP

Crosslistings: COL318

Part I of the course will examine some ways that religion has shaped historical understanding; Part II, some ways that historians have understood the role of religion in history. Readings will reflect a wide variety of perspectives. They will focus for the most part on Christianity (Western and non-Western), which is the professor's area of research, though students will be encouraged to write papers on other religions. In other years, with different professors, they course will have other emphases.

Grade based on several papers and participation.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

COL students must take this course credit/unsatisfactory. All other students must take this course for letter grade. There are no prerequisites for the course, and students do not need the permission of instructor to preregister.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
