This course has two goals. One is to introduce both the formal logic and techniques of social science research and political analysis. The coverage of quantitative techniques includes sampling theory, statistical inference, the logic of hypothesis testing, and regression. A second goal is to introduce students to the logic of policy evaluation and some important tools of analysis (e.g., cost-benefit and cost-effectiveness analysis). Thus, the course serves as an introduction to both statistics and to public policy analysis.
