Lancelot, Guinevere, Grail: Enigma in the Romances of Chretien de Troyes
FREN230 FA

Chretien de Troyes, the greatest writer of medieval France, was the first to tell the stories of Lancelot and Guinevere's fatal passion and of the quest for the Holy Grail. Written at the height of the Renaissance of the twelfth century, his Arthurian tales became the basis for all future retellings of the legend. We will read these tales in depth paying particular attention to their enigmatic quality.
