Women and Literature in France; 1945-2000: A Complete Revolution?

This course investigates the writings of women in France since the publication of Simone de Beauvoir's LE DEUXIEME SEXE in 1949. Through a study of novels and poems by women writers such as Beauvoir, Mansour, Duras, Cardinal, Redonnet we will explore the role of politics, psychoanalysis and the question of memory in women's writing, as well as the themes of maternity, sexuality, the relationship between the public and the private. In a more sociological perspective, we will also determine the influen ce of feminism on literature.
