Biography: Writing About People
ENGL303 SP
This writing course focuses on biography as a mode of knowledge as well as an art form. Students will be helped to conceptualize, research, and write a mini-biography (30 pg.) of family member or Middletown resident.
Format will be that of a writing
workshop and seminar.
MAJOR READINGS
Will include: Geoffrey Wolff, THE DUKE OF DECEPTION Edmund Gosse, FATHER AND SON Vivian Gornick, FIERCE ATTACHMENTS Mary Karr, THE LIARS' CLUB
EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS
Weekly writing assignments for six weeks, then 30 pages in three installments.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS
Each student will write about one person, either a parent or grandparent. Admission by interview about subject and interest is on Jan. 20-21 11 a.m. - 3 p.m., in Room 305 of 285 Court Street. Sign up on door. Class
list will be posted on English
Dept. bulletin board by Jan. 25.
