Poets, Radicals, and Reactionaries: Romantic Poetry in Conversation
ENGL288 FA

Introduction to major poets and themes: nature; memory, imagination, and creativity; and the poetic "I"; form and prosody; responses to French Revolution and social and economic change. Focuses on issues of nation, gender, politics, and form. Places poets in conversation with one another and with broader dialogues about poetics, politics, and society that were taking place during the late eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.

MAJOR READINGS

Blake, Wordsworth, Shelley, Byron, Coleridge, Keats.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Five short close readings. One final paper.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
