20th-Century Poetry

This course includes lectures and discussion concerning such topics as Modernism, Imagism, Black Arts movement, and Feminism in 20th-century poetry.

MAJOR READINGS

Selected poems of: W.B. Yeats, T.S. Eliot, Hilda Doolittle (H.D.), Gwendolyn Brooks, Wallace Stevens, Elizabeth Bishop, Adrienne Rich, Lucille Clifton, Rita Dove, and others.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several papers and a final exercise.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

ENGL201 or equivalent preparation. Regular class attendance.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
