Renaissance Plays and Poems: The Tudor Period
ENGL253 SP
Literature of the Renaissance from 1485 to 1603 is studied, including Marlowe, Shakespeare, Spenser and the sonneteers. We shall study the emergence of modern subjectivity in tragedy and the lyric, the construction of
sexuality in romance and domestic
tragedy, and forms of class struggle in citizen comedy.

Prerequisite is ENGL201 or permission of instructor. ENGL201 may be taken concurrently. This course counts towards the English department's pre-1800 requirement.
