Medieval Literature and the Makings of "Makynge"
ENGL244 SP

This course is designed to help students master Middle English and understand the discursive affiliations of medieval literature. Additional materials, from liturgical texts to mnemotechnical devices, will be provided to familiarize students with textual modes no longer available to us, as we work toward reading texts of increasing discursive complexity.

EXAMINATIONS AND ASSIGNMENTS

Several short papers and a final exam.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS and/or COMMENTS

This course counts toward the department's Pre-1800 requirement. Prior experience in reading Middle English is helpful, but not required.

Unless preregistered students attend the first class meeting or communicate directly with the instructor prior to the first class, they will be dropped from the class list. NOTE: Students must still submit a completed Drop/Add form to the Registrar's Office.
