Sacred Monsters

A few writers from the third world have achieved great stature in the first; in fact, they have become "Sacred Monsters." This course will focus on writers like Salman Rushdie, V.S. Naipaul, C.L.R. James, and Aime Cesaire. In addition to discussing their major works, this class will explore the question of literary canonization, through the writings of major literary theorists.
